Storyboard
We took a different approach to creating a storyboard.
This is because, although our music video follows a story, it does not follow a specific order. For example, although the argument would come later, it could also come earlier or at the start. We found that many music videos mix up there shots like this.
Therefore, we decided to draw each scene we wanted to use and each idea on our storyboard. We then cut them out and lined them up.
After, we played the song, and referred back to the lyrics in order to decide where we think each shot/scene should go in relation to the others.
We understand that this could change, however for now it gives us an idea.

Permission letter for the song
Date: Tuesday, 13 October 2015
Republic Records (Universal Music Group)
Dear Lucian Grainge (Chairman & CEO)
Our names are Sophie Compton and Alice Freeman-King and we are currently studying A level Media Studies at Aldenham School.
As part of our coursework this year, we are creating and producing a music video to a song of our choice. We have chosen 'Let it go' by James Bay as the song we would like to create a music video for, and we are writing this letter to seek your permission to do so.
Please note, this video will be used only for my coursework and will not be distributed or marketed in any form. We would greatly appreciate your permission to use this song,
Many thanks,
Sophie Compton and Alice Freeman-King.
Inspiration for my digipack
As the genre of our song is blues rock, we have taken time to research different fonts, colour schemes, photo and layout uses within this genre.
We would like to use a similar to this because we like the simplicity and it is very easy and clear to read.
As our ideas are based around a argument within a relationship, we feel the front of the digipack should include emotion that the audience can expect within the song.
For the layout of the digipack, we would like the writing of the artist and the albums name to go in the middle of the front cover. We believe this will make the name of the artist stand out.

Purpose of a digipak
- To promote an album
- To list the content of the album
- make the CD eye catching and attractive
- showcase the identity of the artist/band
- to give us an insight into the musician and the music behind it
- use art and images to express the message of the songs or artist
- to store additional promotional materials such as sleeves within the digipak which could be posters or booklets

Research Results
The left side is the results of year 13 and the right side is the results of the year 10.
1. What type of music do you like?
2. Do you like songs that have lyrics with meaning or without?
3. What type of emotions do you like to gain from a music video?
4. Do you enjoy seeing special effects in music videos?
5. Do you prefer fast or slow paced shots in music videos?
6. Do you prefer fast or slow paced songs?
Research into potential target audiences
We decided to get some feedback from our audience. We asked 100 students from year 13 and 100 students from year 10. We found that the students from year13 are a more appropriate age/target audience for our music video as there answers are more relevant to our ideas for our 'let it go' music video.
This research allowed us to understand our target audience in order to see what we need to do to meet their expectation of a music video for this kind of song as well as satisfy them.

Digipack Research
Pop Music
Front |
The front cover features only the main artist which allows for her image to be conveyed to the audience. She is looking away for the audience and to the ceiling this maybe conveys her to be a dreaming towards being a average girl rather an intense artist. The casual and loose text also conveys her quirky songs and image whilst the colour white helps keep it simple. The background is the simple colour grey, which allows the focus to be solely on the artist.

The back of the digipack uses the colours Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with war, danger, strength and power and Black is associated with death, evil, and mystery. The Picture of the band at the bottom of the digipack symbolises togetherness of the group in order to satisfy the audience.
Blues Rock

The colours used in the front cover are Light blue which is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness and Black is associated with power, elegance, and mystery. These colours work well together as they provide a relaxed environment and tone.
This cover contrasts with the artists songs as the songs because we feel that the cover is very cold however his songs are of a warm nature.
We find the white writing on the black background very effective as it makes the cover look powerful. The picture of the artist on his own shows him as a confident, sophisticated, musical and lyrical man.

When researching into digipaks, we found this persons detailed analysis which we found particularly strong and therefore wanted to share, as we learnt a lot from it.
